20 employees of Naew Na Newspaper Co., Ltd., first generation of V.N.S., attended the training from 16-19 June 2022.
Base Activities
Dry fertilizer production involves mixing animal manure, rice husks, rice husk ash, and fine bran together until a uniform mixture is formed. Concentrated microbial inoculants are added, and the mixture is thoroughly mixed until it forms a solid mass. This process is often used during soil preparation, where the mixture is mixed with the soil in the plot. The soil is then covered with straw, leaves, or branches. The soil should be left to ferment for seven days before planting (for rice, field crops, and vegetables).
Liquid fertilizer production is achieved by decomposing plant and animal waste through a fermentation process, where microorganisms break down the plant and animal remains into a solution. In addition to its ease of use, liquid organic fertilizers are safe for both users and plants, and are environmentally friendly.
Seven Flavors of Fermented Water: This formula is made from herbs with flavors ranging from bland, bitter, astringent, intoxicating, sour, aromatic, and pungent. The production process is the same for all flavors, but the main ingredients differ. Each herb has a different efficacy, but all seven flavors possess unique pest control properties. This is another way to reduce the problem of insect resistance.
**Note: At all three activity stations, participants will be divided into groups. Each station will take approximately 30 minutes. Groups will rotate activities until all stations are completed.
Learning Activities
Soap Making: Soap is a hygiene product for cleansing the body made from a reaction between alkali and vegetable or animal fats. It comes in two forms: bar and liquid. Both use the same ingredient, “soap flakes.” Participants will learn and understand the ingredients and production process. They can use this knowledge to make their own soap for their own household use or to develop a supplementary income by selling it in their community. They will be divided into groups to make liquid soap, allowing participants to learn and understand the manufacturing process before using the product in practice.
Shampoo making is an important personal hygiene product, but using products containing harsh chemicals can cause problems. Therefore, care should be taken when washing your hair to maintain healthy hair and scalp. However, commercial shampoos may contain different ingredients, but their main ingredient is a detergent. Participants were divided into groups and learned how to make natural shampoos readily available at the center. Once completed, they can be reused within the home, reducing unnecessary expenses and potentially generating additional income.
Making multi-purpose cleaners and dishwashing liquids: These products are used to clean and remove stains from floors, furniture, plates/bowls, and other household items. Participants were divided into groups and learned how to make multi-purpose cleaners and dishwashing liquids using bio-fermented ingredients and recycled food waste. This helps reduce waste and unused ingredients in the center’s kitchen. Participants will learn the detailed procedures and methods for making multi-purpose cleaners and dishwashing liquids, which can be applied to practical daily life.
Making balm: This external medicine has a variety of properties. It can relieve pain caused by insect bites, such as ants, bee stings, and centipede bites. It can also relieve sprains, bruises, dizziness, and lightheadedness. Applying it helps alleviate the pain. Participants will learn the detailed procedures and methods for making balm. Then, they divided into groups to practice making herbal balm using the steps they had learned, which could be further developed to generate additional income for their households and communities.
Green medicine is a traditional Thai medicine recipe based on the knowledge of traditional Thai medicine. It primarily consists of plant leaves. The use of leaves gives the medicine a greenish color, hence the name “green medicine.” Participants will learn the detailed procedures and methods for making green medicine. Then, they divided into groups to practice making green medicine according to the steps they had learned.
